Reflection on Green Burial at Just Love Forest

This year marked a beautiful unfolding of our commitment to sacred land and sacred endings.

In 2025, we formally opened the Sacred Forest, welcoming five initial green burial plots for individuals outside our immediate Just Love Forest community. It was a quiet yet powerful expansionan offering to those who feel the call to return to the earth in a natural, reverent way.

We also created the Circle of Paws, a special burial ground for beloved animal companions. These beings share our hearts and our homes, and now they can rest among the trees, honored and held in the forest they loved alongside us.

Our Green Burial 101 online seminar brought together Bala, Josh, and Lee, three of the stewards leading this work, to guide attendees through the why and how of green burial. We spoke about ecological restoration, personal legacy, and the sacredness of returning our bodies to the earth with intention and care. We offered stories, answered questions, and deepened the sense that this path is not about death, but about deeper life and reciprocity to the earth.

And every Community Weekend, we now offer free burial ground tours on Sundays, inviting all who are curious or called to come walk the land, ask questions, and begin envisioning their place in this cycle of life and return. Two weekends ago, we hosted a beautiful gathering on the land, sunlight filtering through the trees, laughter and reverence woven together as we walked the forest trails where so many memories, lives, and legacies will one day be rooted.

Green burial is not just an ecological choice, it’s a soulful one. It invites us to remember: our bodies are earth. We are not leaving something behind; we are going home.
